Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary (FFAS) is a safe place for abused and abandoned dogs and cats, while providing health care, spaying/neutering, protection, warmth, care, and love while awaiting adoption.
Our 10.75-acre site is on Grace Church Road, off US 29 in south Salisbury. Architect Jon Palmer designed an environmental-friendly building and Summit Developers served as our General Contractor. The exterior walls are composed of Siptex panels; these are considered “green” building materials with an insulation rating of R-30. The building is sited to take advantage of solar orientation to block the full summer sun, but to allow the lower winter sun. Photovoltaic array and occupancy sensors in high-volume areas will help increase energy efficiency. Our dogs enjoy socialization and interaction in our outside fenced in dog area, just outside our kennel runs, while our cats have access to an outside screened sun porch.
Faithful Friends’ sole purpose was to build and operate a no-kill sanctuary for homeless cats and dogs. As of our opening in March 2012, we are the only fully licensed no-kill shelter through the NC Department of Agriculture in Rowan County, NC. The primary sources of animals will be pets pulled from the Rowan County Animal Shelter, owner surrenders and animals rescued by the public that are bound for animal control. The maximum capacity of the sanctuary is around 45 cats, and 45 dogs, dependent upon size. Our adoption area has 28 indoor/outdoor dog runs and 23 stainless steel cat cages. Additional animal quarters are located in our Quarantine and Isolation section, which is a separately ventilated area of the building. All animals will be examined, given age-appropriate vaccinations, internal and external parasite treatments, canine heart worm or feline FIV/leukemia testing, and spay/neuter. We have been truly blessed by the enthusiastic support of donors and volunteers. Your generous donations, as well as your countless volunteer hours, have allowed us to follow our hearts and foster, protect, adopt, and care for abused and abandoned animals in our community. The overwhelming support we have received has been astonishing, and Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary could not be possible without all of you. It is with all of our combined efforts from this point forward that Rowan County has its first no-kill shelter, and we can now change the outcome for so many of our community’s animals.
